Rat shit, bat shit, dirty old twat!
Sixty-nine assholes tied in a knot!
Hooray! Lizard shit! Fuck!

George Carlin

Nothing is true, everything is permitted.
attributed to Hassan-i-Sabbah

The explosion of galaxies is violent. A comet falling on Jupiter making seven big holes is violent. The birth of a child is very violent. Someone passing away -- and I have assisted dying people -- I go sometimes. Even if the person is quietly dying, it's immense violence... this loss of consciousness. Life is violent; the circulation of blood, the heart beating, all this is violent. But there are two types of violence: creative and destructive.
Alejandro Jodorowsky

The souls of men must be scared to the core by unfathomable and seemingly senseless crimes... crimes that cannot even be understood by those who commit them... crimes that do not prove profitable to anyone. Their only purpose must be to spread fright and terror. The ultimate purpose of crime is to establish The Absolute Rule of Crime... a condition of complete insecurity and anarchy, built upon the perished ideals of a world. As soon as people are ruled by the terror of crime, when they have been driven insane by horror and fright, when chaos has been established as the governing law, then it will be the time of The Reign of Crime.
Dr. Mabuse's Reign of Crime

Very nice Jodorowsky quote.

To be honest, though, there haven't been many movies in theaters the past few years that I've wanted to see. Tsukamoto had a new film coming out, but it actually didn't look that good. I absolutely LOVED "Vital," and was hoping her would do more projects in that vein.

I haven't heard or seen anything interesting in a long time. I mean anything new. Boring ideas presented in a LOUD, overdone style.

I miss earthiness. Holy fuck I miss earthiness. Minimal and deep. Something that isn't just there to entertain those who were born yesterday.

But this is just me yammering.

Have you seen Vampyr - Strange Adventure of Allan Gray (1932)? It's the best film I've seen lately. It's almost a silent film, which usually are quite dreamlike, but Vampyr is like a nightmare you love to see again and again.

No, I haven't seen "Vampyr" (1932). I'll keep an eye out for it. I absolutely ADORE silent film. I can't even count the number of times I've seen "Nosferatu" and "The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari." Gorgeous, gorgeous art.

I 100% agree with you. The whole concept of "earthiness" seems pretty much gone from most film. Commercial film here in the US was always just about making money. But at least in the early to mid 20th Century, directors had good stories. That seems to be gone now.

God, I miss Bergman.
