Q: What inspired you to create this trilogy of trilogies? Are you the George Lucas of classical / black metal?
A: No, I'm the Anti-Lucas. Originally I was only going to make one album, Vengeful Semblance, recorded in May 2019 and released in July the same year. I had the idea of combining distorted guitars with orchestral percussion already in 2014. As a composer I'm always thinking about different instruments. We need more unusual instrumentation because it's the future. We also need non-religious black metal.
Vengeful Semblance is both classical and metal at the same time.
I grew up listening to classical, soundtracks, folk and metal. In the mid-90s you couldn't avoid black metal. A Finnish radio show called Metalliliitto (Metal Union) played new releases and demos.
Some people can only understand the cliches of black metal. Unfortunately this group includes a lot of artists as well. No genre is that simple. Making money with cliches is the way of the mainstream, and I'm not doing that.
Black metal was always experimental. This is something many people don't understand. Some of them think they're the biggest fanatics. Fanaticism gives you the same old crap over and over again. The spirit of black metal is the spirit of innovation. I've had the time of my life exploring the possibilities and celebrating 20 years of making music.
