Art questions February 2022

Q: What did your parents think about drawing skills as a child?

A: They just said I was good at drawing. Good for them.

Very young people making realistic drawings should never be famous just because of that. Never. I made drawings like that when I was 12, and everyone just thought I was good at drawing. That was a healthy response. I was technically advanced, not an artist.

A lot of these kids are thinking about quitting. They don't know where to go, but they're famous for one thing. That is torture.

Everyone says: "look at the numbers." I say: look at the miserable little kid. Take a good look. The reality in that face.

Stanley Kubrick was a photographer as a teenager and he got paid for that. He was only taking the first steps towards something. Why the hell would you stop there?
