Rubber's lover is excellent. I recommend it. Tetsuo is basically the only Shinya film I really like. I like Hideshi Hino's films (Mermaid in a manhole, Theater of horror series...).
Organ is another great one. Kei Fujiwara from Tetsuo directed it. It's closer to gore (just like Mermaid..). Some of my favourites from that category: Naked blood, Biotherapy, Guts of a beauty, Evil dead trap.
Also the old "ghost" classics from 50s & 60s are really essential to me (Jigoku, Kaidan, Tokaido yotsuya kaidan..) Jigoku from 1960 is quite disturbing. And some of the modern ones: Kairo, Ju-on: grudge.
I'm really dying to see ORGAN. Its been on my "want it fucking bad" list for a long time. Fujiwara is very talented- she was in many of Tsukamoto's earlier films and always stood out. I've also read great reviews of her film IDO (or just "Id").
All of those Japanese classics from the 50s and 60s are amazing. I think that was one of the greatest eras of film-making, period.
Another great Japanese director is Ishii Sogo. More in the punk vein than horror. I had the chance to see an original print of his CRAZY THUNDER ROAD on the big screen at an art theater in downtown Tokyo this past spring. Amazing.
Really love your blog. I just started up one of my own and will link yours.

Have been wanting to see this film for a long time. RUBBER'S LOVER is by the same director. I've heard its excellent as well.
Are you a fan of Tsuakamoto Shinya's work? He's probably my favorite director.
